[7] St. Wendelin´s Chapel

Description

St. Wendelin’s Chapel is a Catholic chapel situated on the hill between Neuhausen and Steinegg and is regarded as a landmark of the Biet region. From its location, visitors can enjoy a wide and attractive panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

The chapel is dedicated to Saint Wendelin, who is venerated as the patron saint of shepherds, farmers, and livestock and played an important role particularly in southwestern Germany. Traditionally, it served as a place of prayer for a good harvest and for the protection of people and animals.

At the end of the Second World War, the chapel was severely damaged. In the 1960s, the remaining images of the altar structure, with its carved palm fronds and sunflowers, disappeared. What remains is the chapel’s beautiful setting and its hall-like structure with a semicircular apse, as well as its characteristic wooden canopy above the western entrance.

The simple building blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape and emphasizes the original character of the site.

To this day, St. Wendelin’s Chapel is a place of reflection and an important part of the religious and cultural heritage of the municipality of Neuhausen. It is regularly maintained and serves as a reminder of the close connection between faith, nature, and village life.
