The German Stained Glass Museum in Linnich is the only nationwide museum dedicated to flat glass painting, with only four other specialized museums existing across Europe. Since its opening, it has been supported by the foundation of the same name and the Friends´ Association. The permanent exhibition provides visitors with an overview of the history of stained glass art from its beginnings in the Middle Ages to the present day. It focuses on works created between the 19th and 21st centuries, addressing not only the thematic and formal development but also the depiction of the technique of this art form. Several annually changing special exhibitions of national and international artists expand the range of the permanent exhibition, thereby enhancing the understanding of the multifaceted nature of particularly contemporary stained glass art. Scientific publications consistently produce new, forward-looking research findings. The exhibitions are complemented by the museum´s extensive accompanying program, which invites all target groups and age ranges, from children to seniors, to find their own unique access to this special art treasure.
