Schloss Neuenbürg dates back to a medieval castle from the 12th century. Around 1320, the Württembergers acquired the fortress on the former Celtic hill and had it remodeled several times until 1658. Since 2001, part of the current Renaissance castle has been used as a branch museum of the Baden State Museum. The centerpiece of the museum is the Hauff fairy tale "The Cold Heart," which, as a walkable and multimedia theater production, allows visitors to deeply immerse themselves in the world of charcoal burners, raftsmen, and forest spirits. In the second part of the museum, the castle servant Ambrosius invites guests into the castle rooms, where, among other things, the Neuenbürger Asylum Stone from 1593, interactive stations, and a film station make the history of the castle, town, and the Northern Black Forest region come alive.
