Description

In Nienburg/Weser, the Lower Saxony Asparagus Museum brings the cultural history of asparagus to life for visitors. As a regional museum run by public authorities, it is part of Museum Nienburg, a consortium with several sites.

The museum opened in 2005 on the Lower Saxony Asparagus Route and, as a specialist institution, focuses on all aspects of asparagus: cultivation, harvest, processing, distribution and marketing are at the centre of the presentation. It presents 120 years of asparagus history in the Nienburg area, which also, by way of example, document other significant asparagus regions in Lower Saxony such as Braunschweig and Burgdorf.

The collection is housed in an almost 400‑year‑old hall house in the garden of the Quaet‑Faslem‑Haus. The building originally served as a farmhouse in Dolldorf and was moved to Nienburg in 1963. On display are historic machinery, work implements and accessories, as well as further artefacts from Nienburg’s asparagus‑processing businesses, which clearly illustrate the regional production and marketing process.
