Description

History

The Radio Museum in Gothenburg is operated on a voluntary basis by members of the Radio History Association of Western Sweden.

The association was grounded in 1983 by a group of radio enthusiasts, of whom Erik Bergsten, an editor at Swedish Television, became the Society's first chairman.

The Radio Museum started in premises in the former Industrial Museum in Gårda and moved to the former drawing office at Götaverken in Lundby when the Gårda museum was closed down in 1993.

The Radio Museum has expanded to include not only radio receivers and transmitters, but also television, marine radio, military radio, mobile radio, measuring instruments and much, much more.

At the Radio Museum you will find everything you want to know about radio from the turn of the century to today's technology.

Maybe you will find the radio you had when you were young in our collection. Or you can follow the technical development of radio, see how designs have changed over the years or get an insight into communication at sea. There are members on duty every day and they are happy to answer your questions, or you can join the guided tours that we arrange for groups.

We have a Museum Shop that has books about radio and radio history, postcards and other souvenirs. The shop has spare parts for different types of radios and we have components that can be difficult to find elsewhere. This is a real bargain place if you are interested in experiments and radio technology and you might want to buy some of the equipment that we have for sale

We sell Swedish Radios CDs with highlights from radio shows from the late 1930s to the 1970s.

You can also get help on how to deal with older appliances, or to find documentation and schedules and other documents in our Library.
