Description
Heroes or Villains? – This is the theme of the exhibition held at an authentic historical site. In 1809, eleven Prussian officers were held captive in the still-preserved casemate rooms of the main gate of the citadel in Wesel, shortly thereafter executed. They were part of the free corps led by the well-known Prussian Major Ferdinand von Schill (1776-1809), who defied the occupation and collaboration with Napoleon´s troops on his own authority. The officers imprisoned in Wesel are known in history books as "Schill´s Hunters". Where did these eleven come from and why did they join this resistance?
The permanent exhibition presents the backgrounds and personalities of the eleven officers within the historical context. Some of the captions are also available in English and Dutch.
Be transported to the Napoleonic era! The exhibition access is slightly hidden under the arch arcades. There is also a small museum shop in the exhibition room. The Schill Casemate (also known as the Schill Museum) is managed as a Historical Site of Wesel by the Wesel City Archive.

Es handelt sich um zwei ebenerdig gelegene historische Gewölberäume, in der die Ausstellung eingerichtet ist. Direkt vor Ort gibt es keine Toilettenanlagen. Während der Öffnungszeiten kann die barrierearme Toilettenanlage im nahen LVR-Niederrheinmuseum genutzt werden.
