In the permanent exhibition, the town museum presents the development of Beckum from the Franconian settlement history (with the princely tomb of Beckum around 600 AD) to its important role as a Hanseatic town in the Middle Ages and its industrial history in the 19th century, which is mainly characterized by lime mining and cement production. The museum also shows special exhibitions of contemporary modern art four to six times a year. The authentic corner store or the old kitchen elicit a “Do you remember?” from many a museum visitor. The carnival room has been successfully furnished to showcase 500 years of carnival tradition in a very small space.
