Description

Welcome to the Roman City Museum Sumelocenna! The "Parking Garage Museum" at the city moat is built on an original Roman city section and offers a unique insight into the ancient settlement of significant regional importance. The most impressive feature is a 32-meter-long, luxuriously equipped latrine. For anyone interested in the hygiene conditions and the remarkable engineering and craftsmanship achievements of the Roman era, a visit to the Sumelocenna Museum is absolutely worthwhile.

The exhibition showcases everyday life in Sumelocenna, a wealth of original Roman artifacts, a peristyle villa, reconstructions, models, a lapidarium, and a preserved Roman bath.

Special formats for teaching provincial Roman history are offered for children, adolescents, and families, such as guided tours for school classes of all age groups, workshops, public children´s tours, and interactive city rallies.

A film, also available in French and English, provides an exciting introduction to the Roman era of southwestern Germany. The Roman City Museum Sumelocenna is part of the Roman Road Neckar – Alb – Aare.

The Roman City Museum Sumelocenna is dedicated to its patron, Rottenburg honorary citizen Professor Josef Eberle alias Sebastian Blau, a long-time editor of the Stuttgarter Zeitung. The "Sebastian Blau Hiking Trail" commemorates the gifted Swabian dialect poet.
