Where the Franconian Alb and the Upper Palatinate Jura merge, the community of Etzelwang lies in the middle of a charming low mountain range.
Etzelwang, first mentioned in documents in 1059, looks back on an eventful time in the Middle Ages. Witnesses to this past are the Neidstein and Kirchenreinbach castles that still exist today, as well as the Hauseck and Rupprechtstein castle ruins. The St. Nicholas Church is worth seeing - its greatest treasure is the organ from 1745 by master organ builder Elias Hößler and the modern St. Martin's Church.
A beautifully located, heated outdoor pool, well-marked hiking trails and designated cycle paths invite you to relax, well-run country inns invite you to linger - or enjoy a carriage ride with the whole family.
