Stendal always was and still is one of the biggest cities of the Altmark.
It is located in the northern part of Saxony-Anhalt, directly in the beautiful landscape of the Uchte valley. The historical town covers an area of 94 ha. Here you can find many historical buildings – especially churches and public buildings – that represent the typical architectural style of the so-called Brickstone Gothic. All of these buildings proof the former wealth and importance of Stendal. Especially as a part of the Hanseatic League, a trading organisation of cities along the Baltic Sea and in Northern Europe. While walking on historic paths through our town, you will discover that a strong fortress wall protected the old centre. Its structure is still notable today. Visit the rich art of our churches and get in touch with the traditional and historic architecture. There is a lot to see and to discover.
