Störtal-Museum in Banzkow

Beschreibung

The Störtal Museum Banzkow

In our museum you can experience the traditions that have developed in our region in a variety of ways. On the occasion of Banzkow's 700th anniversary, the museum was opened in the basement of the trendy Hotel Banzkow in 2000. The TrendHotel has provided an exhibition area of around 300 square meters for this purpose. Although the people of Mecklenburg are said to be a bit stubborn, we still like to think outside the box. That's why the museum not only contains exhibits from Banzkow, Lewitz and the surrounding area, but also from other regions. We would like to remember the "good old days", which were sometimes much more difficult than today. Some things from back then are hard to imagine. That's why the museum becomes very lively on certain occasions. It is then shown how people once tied a broom, forged iron in a very sweaty way, spun sheep's wool into threads, made wooden handles and rakes, soled shoes and preserved food for their own use. The very active museum group, which belongs to the Störtal-Verein Banzkow and likes to show itself in a self-made costume, plays a special role in this. The museum restaurant, named after the Banzkow merchant Max Block (1898 - 1954), is very popular. This “mom and pop shop with pub use” is particularly popular with families who want to surprise grandma and grandpa with a trip back in time through the trendy hotel. Since summer 2009, a diorama model showing "Banzkow around 1900" has aroused the particular interest of visitors. Many memorabilia of GDR everyday objects and documentation on local GDR agricultural history have been on display in the "DDR Room" since 2021. A life-sized potato mouse with the facial features of Marianne Böthfüer, who advertised our gold village and tourism in the Lewitz for 20 years in the costume of the Banzkow potato mouse, is now at home in the "GDR room". A full-size replica of the legendary mobile mouse house has also found its place here. There is also an oversized album with the strongest impressions of the Banzkower Potato Mouse's four big European trips in words and pictures. The Banzkow museum organizers are very grateful for the diverse support of the community of Banzkow, the TrendHotel and the many other helpers. The museum is run by "Störtal e.V. - Banzkow" - Straße des Friedens 12, 19079 Banzkow (telephone: 03861-300818).
