Beschreibung

The Information and Documentation Center 'Marine Artillery Arsenal Wahlstedt' in the former waterworks bunker presents an exhibit on the theme: 'From Village to City through the Marine Artillery Arsenal' across 200 square meters. Information panels guide visitors through the period of 1937 - 1945 in Wahlstedt. The same panels are found on the so-called historical trail through the industrial area in the southwest of the town. The waterworks bunker was part of the marine arsenal Fahrenkrug-Wahlstedt during the Second World War. Many buildings from this period still stand and were taken over by the burgeoning industry after the end of the war, enabling the establishment of businesses. There were a number of arsenals during the Second World War. The Wahlstedt Arsenal is very well preserved in Germany and exemplary for its transition to peaceful use. Elsewhere, the buildings were usually completely demolished after the war.In a large exhibition, information is provided about the flight at the end of the war, about food stamps, living in barracks and the new beginning in old buildings.Visits are possible. For inquiries, please contact the office of the Wahlstedt Adult Education Center at the number 04554-5912.
