Station: [6] Granary of the Old Farm

One of Dornburg’s oldest surviving buildings is this granary, a long structure that was part of a large manor half way between the market square and the Old Palace. It dates to the mid-16th century, roughly a hundred years after the destruction of the medieval castle. The granary has largely been preserved in its original condition. A tree-ring analysis has dated the wood used to build this half-timbered structure to 1544 and 1545. That makes the granary a little older than large parts of the Old Palace, which was rebuilt from the ground up in the second half of the 16th century.

Over the centuries, the manor continuously expanded. Today, it occupies a large part of central Dornburg.
