Station: [16] The assistants Vieth and Blockmeyer

“Some employees will always be remembered fondly. These two assistants – mason’s assistants Vieth and Blockmeyer – are unfortunately not to be counted among this number. We may see them at work in this case; Vieth is busy chiselling part of a cornice, a little to the right Blockmeyer is sitting in fornt of another. However, whenever the master is inattentive, they drop their hammer and chisel almost instantly, preferring to eat and drink excessively at the landlord’s expense, or – and this has happened a few times – simply disappear for a while. At this point in time, Rutger’s wife Anna von Palandt is talking to Master Laurentz von Brachum. Are his assistants once more the topic under discussion? Laurentz is well regarded by the landlord for being an extraordinarily talented mason and thus almost as generously paid as the building master. Will he be able to talk some sense into his assistants? We know from the files that he would not be able to – Rutger von der Horst eventually pays them their dues and sends them away.”
