Station: [27] Fishing

One morning, Jesus is preaching on the shore of the lake. The fishermen are washing their nets. Many men and women have gathered. Jesus asks Simon, one of the fishermen: “May I use your boat to go out a little way so that the people can hear me better?” When Jesus had finished his sermon from the boat, he said to Simon again: “Go out into the deep water and cast your nets there!” But Simon replies: “We’ve been trying to catch something all night, but unfortunately without success.” Then he continues: “But since you say so, we’ll go out again!” So they go out and cast their nets. Pause. Pause. Pause. You are now invited to pull on the rope on the right side of the boat. The story continues: They catch so many fish that the nets almost tear and the boats nearly sink. “Go away, I am full of sin,” Simon says to Jesus, for it was all too much for him. But Jesus replies: Simon, in the future you will no longer catch fish, but buy people. With this, Jesus alludes to the redemption of slaves. Simon and his companions leave everything behind and follow Jesus.
