[1] ´Altenteilerkate´ and local history museum in Dassow

Description

The Altenteilerkate at Lübecker Straße 74 is the oldest residential building in the city that has been preserved in its original size and form. It is a listed building.

The foundation walls indicate that a building stood there as early as around 1500. The original oak beams that are still in place today are over 300 years old and date back to the house that was rebuilt about half a metre above the original foundations after the great city fire of 1732. During the renovation in 1999, the old foundations and the fire floor, which covered the entire area of the house, were found. The house was a “smokehouse” and had a thatched roof until 1835. For fire safety reasons, it was later covered with roof tiles. The roof tiles on the house are still the originals, hand-painted and now almost 200 years old.
