[5] KunstPark am Rennsteig

Description

Certainly a charming task to design this art project. I was assured creative freedom by Mayor Thomas Löffler. At my request, there was an initial meeting with the Culture Committee and the Mayor. In advance, I selected a sculptor and two sculptors and asked them for sketches of feasible sculptures.

Together with the Culture Committee, we each decided on four sculptures based on the rough sketches, with the artistic execution left to the sculptors. Even during the selection of the sculptors, I looked for a fairy-tale quality (Michael Steigerwald); playfully imaginative richness (Judith Franke); and a clear formal language (Walter Busch). After the nineteen fir trunks were drawn, sculptural work could begin.

During the work, further sculptures emerged in conversations with the sculptors (e.g., Glass Queen, Thimble), and ideas from the public were incorporated (Stone-Country Woman).

The local industry could be represented on my proposal by the stylized wine bottle and the pellet lighter, though these were placed on additional tree trunks.

So the “KunstPark am Rennsteig” could be created with a unique feature for Steinbach am Wald.
