If you want to take a journey through time and explore the history of Goeppingen, the “Alter Kasten” is the place to go. From 1707 until the 19th century, the building served as the granary for the Oberhofen monastery administration. The beautiful half-timbered building was constructed in the second half of the 16th century as the city residence of the Lords of Degenfeld.
Today, it houses the city archives, the museum and archives of the Schönhengster Heimatbund (local history association), as well as a local history room and documentation of the history of the Banat Schwaben (ethnic German group from the Banat region).
