The "Centre Charlemagne – New City Museum Aachen" is located at Katschhof, the former courtyard of the palace between the cathedral and the town hall. An exhibition at the museum traces the history of Charlemagne and the development of his city. The Centre also serves as the starting point for exploring the other stations of the "Route Charlemagne." A Carolingian children´s sarcophagus, chainmail to touch, a baroque spa taxi: The Centre Charlemagne brings Aachen´s history to life, as well as the role Charlemagne played in it. This is particularly evident in four epochs, where the city´s history is closely linked with the history of Europe. Each of these four epochs corresponds to a section of the museum.
