Description

Supported by the municipality of Hardheim, the Erfatal Museum is dedicated to the history and culture of the Erfatal region. It presents local everyday life and identity-forming artifacts within a municipal museum context.

The origins of the collection date back to around the turn of the century; in 1922 the exhibition was first shown to the public in the tower room of Hardheim Castle. In the 1970s it was moved to the attic floors of a historic storage building opposite the castle, where the collection presentation has been anchored ever since. The building’s more recent redesign was conceived and carried out in collaboration with the local museum association. The impetus for the museum’s early foundation came from a teacher from Bretzingen, who took up and implemented draft plans for Hardheim that had been found there.

The permanent exhibition highlights key aspects of Hardheim’s history, local crafts, and agriculture. Biographical displays are devoted to notable regional figures, including presentations on Walter Hohmann, Ignaz Schwinn, and Julius Heffner. The offering is complemented by rotating special exhibitions that explore thematic focal points of regional cultural history.
