Description

The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) is an art house in Brisbane, Australia, located in the Queensland Cultural Centre. It is the largest museum for modern and contemporary art in Australia and houses Australia's first purpose-built cinematheque. GOMA, which opened on December 2, 2006, is located next to the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) building and the State Library of Queensland, overlooking the Brisbane River and the CBD. The building was designed by the Sydney architectural firm Architectus and has a total area of over 25,000 square meters. GOMA has hosted a variety of exhibitions and houses the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in conjunction with the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG). Notable works include pieces by Georg Baselitz, Xu Bing, Olafur Eliasson, Julia Mage’au Gray, Anish Kapoor, Willem de Kooning, Yayoi Kusama, Nam June Paik, Cindy Sherman, James Turrell, Lee Ufan, and Ai Weiwei.
