Description

The museum at Berlin-Gatow airfield (formerly the Air Force Museum) is a branch of the Bundeswehr’s Military History Museum in Dresden. While the Dresden museum tells a general cultural history of violence, the Berlin museum focuses on air warfare as the most recent form of military use of force. Technological history is understood as part of cultural history, with people in their various roles placed at the center. At the historic site, knowledge and stories from more than 120 years of military aviation and air warfare are brought to life—told from multiple perspectives, critically, and with many personal references. This also includes the history of the airfield, which is now a listed monument, from the National Socialist air war school to the Cold War period and the stationing of the Royal Air Force. Gatow airfield is closely linked to the Berlin Airlift. Since 1994 the site has been available to the museum for one of the world’s largest cross-bloc collections of Cold War–era air warfare equipment. A comprehensive renovation and redesign of the museum is planned for the coming years.

Car parking
Mit dem Auto ist Gatow am besten über die B2 angebunden. Auf dem Museumsgelände stehen kostenlose Bus- und Pkw-Parkplätze zur Verfügung.
Connection public transport
Mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln ist das Museum über die BVG-Linie 135 erreichbar. Die nächstgelegenen Haltestellen lauten Kurpromenade oder Seekorso. Von dort beträgt der Fußweg zum Museum noch rund zehn Minuten.
