Description

An excursion destination for the whole family, quickly and affordably accessible from Thuringia, Saxony, and Bavaria. Weida offers primarily historical insights into the history of the once mighty Vogtland. The tower of Osterburg - the ancestral seat of the vogts - is visible from afar and can be climbed up to the second battlement ring. The turret room, furnished according to original records, tells of the responsible task of the tower keeper, who served there until 1917. In addition to extensive exhibitions on city and regional history, the castle offers a prison cell with information on the last execution, a 360° animation inside the tower on the history of Vogtland and the Reussian nobility, as well as regular special exhibitions - currently, the annual exhibition in the castle’s coach house - “When the Vogts Held Weddings.” The castle grounds are also attractive. The courtly pleasure garden, medieval herb garden, and prison garden provide a backdrop for numerous events.
