[4] Castle Park

Description

The Schlosspark is the green oasis of the “Trumpeter Town,” with Schloss Schönau at its centre. Across the park, couples choose picturesque spots for their wedding ceremonies—just like Franz Werner and Maria Ursula in the famous trumpeter tale. The band shell, cactus garden, large playground, small park café overlooking the Rhine, bird aviary, the Orangerie used for weddings, and the old city wall with the round Thieves’ Tower all contribute to its romantic charm. Visitors may also encounter the Trumpeter of Säckingen himself, guiding tours or performing his well-known song during summer promenade concerts.
Schloss Schönau once had four towers, later lost two, and gained a central southern tower. Inside are several museums, including the Scheffel Rooms with a first edition of The Trumpeter of Säckingen. A statue of the trumpeter stands proudly in front of the castle, and the Trumpeter Fountain near the entrance offers inviting seating.

Show Time:
The park also serves as a unique event venue: spring garden and craft fairs, open-air cinema, colourful festivals and blues concerts in summer. From May to September, free Sunday promenade concerts by local music groups create a lively atmosphere—proof of how good entertainment feels.
