Description
Directly on the B85 in Steinbach am Wald stands the noteworthy Wehrkirche St. Johannes Baptista, whose core nave and chancel date to the year 1500. About a hundred years later, the wooden choral vault and the window on the chancel wall were added. In the 17th century, the tower structure, the lower gallery, and the sacristy were completed. A second renewal of the choir arch, the first having been in 1545, and the insertion of the West facade windows date to 1799. The fortification church, surrounded by a rubble wall with a slate roof and a moat, was in very poor condition and underwent a thorough renovation from 1973 to 1978.
