The urban area of Dassow, which has grown through incorporations, stretches from the Baltic Sea coast (between Klützer Winkel and Priwall) across the shores of Pötenitzer Wiek and Lake Dassow to the mouth of the Maurine River where it flows into the Stepenitz River. The town centre of Dassow itself is located at the point where the Stepenitz flows into Lake Dassow, which, as a side bay of the Trave estuary into the Baltic Sea, is already at sea level. In the north-east of the district, the hilly terrain rises to 58 metres above sea level. The shores of Lake Dassow and the Stepenitz, as well as parts of the coastline, are designated nature reserves.
