In October 1981, the municipality of Oberrot bought the old mill building along with the water rights.Over the next two years it was converted into a museum in collaboration with the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park, the company Klenk Holz AG and the wood processing industry in Rottal. This project was supported by numerous private donors. Until 1996, Ms. Paula Schmid, the widow of the last sawyer, ran the museum herself and told many anecdotes from the sawyer´s life. In 1997, Ms. Schmid moved into a retirement home, where she died in 2005 at the age of 96.Today this task is carried out by volunteers just as competently and with commitment. After Ms. Schmid moved away, the Sägmühlmuseum was expanded to include the SägmüllerhäuschenWhere necessary, the rooms were carefully restored. The walls and floors, for example, now have a dress that is true to the original.Hans Brucklacher from the local history association played a large part in ensuring that the mill house shines again in its former glory. In 2008, the roof of the sawmill had to be extensively renovated, with the State Monuments Office imposing considerable requirements, but unfortunately not contributing financially. As a small museum, the Sägmühlmuseum has no fixed opening hours.Further information about opening times and guided tours can be obtained from the municipal administration on Tel.: 07977-74-11.You can also combine a visit to the Sägmühlmuseum with a hike
