The Wallstraße in Stavenhagen was already renewed in the years 2005 and 2006. Typical two-story plaster and half-timbered buildings were created, each with an entrance gate to the street, pointing to the character of the former agricultural city.
To support this, climbing roses were planted here, as well as in other parts of the old town. The maintenance of the plants is taken over by the property owners, showing how well the cooperation between the city and its citizens is working.
In 2020, construction began on a multi-family house at Wallstraße 5c. Eleven residential units are being created here, which will be completed in 2021. This new construction was made possible by the initiative "New Living in the City Center", an initiative of the Ministry of Labor, Construction and State Development Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in cooperation with the Chamber of Architects Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The aim of the project is to attract prospective builders to build and live in the city center of Stavenhagen. The close cooperation between future builders and architects is very important here. Only in this way can exemplary infill development be developed and implemented, tailored to the needs of the users and architecturally and urbanistically attractive. For funding law reasons, the support of this process with urban development funding focuses on inner city renovation areas.
The urban renovation of the past 30 years has greatly contributed to the revitalization of the "historical old town" in terms of inner city living. To counteract the vacancy and high need for renovation that was prevalent in the early 1990s, cityscape-shaping houses have been thoroughly renovated. This led to an influx, which quickly counteracted the existing vacancy.
When non-restorable buildings had to be demolished, infill construction was sought with the support of the city. This offers advantages for everyone: for the builders, the city center offers high quality of living, as all necessary institutions and shops are nearby. Short distances make using a car unnecessary. For the city, the infill construction provides new, high-quality living space, which leads to stability in the population numbers. In addition, residents use the existing infrastructure and therefor support local retailers and service providers.
Inner-city building in Stavenhagen is intended to contribute to building culture in MV. The goal is the construction of buildings with old town charm and a modern face, tailored to the needs of the users and cost-effective to build. Special attention is given here to innovative approaches such as intergenerational living and flexible usage forms. As in the Wallstraße 5c.
Three architects from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern submitted their study for the new development of the existing building gap. After a presentation of the drafts in the building department, Hendrik Haß from aib-Bauplanung Nord GmbH in Rostock was able to prevail. The committee consisted of the builders, representatives of the building department, the redevelopment agency and the framework planner, to ensure that the greatest possible benefit can be achieved for all involved.
After some changes in the planning and early construction phase, a two-story building was created, which effortlessly fulfills the factor of a modern and barrier-free living with an elevator and threshold-free, wider doors, as well as with a charming facade that fits perfectly into the old town.
