Description

In the Brambauer district of Lünen, the Bergarbeiterwohnmuseum offers insights into the everyday life of mining families in the early 20th century. It is located in the Neue Zechenkolonie of the former Zeche Minister Achenbach and was established in 1994 as part of an extensive renovation of the settlement.

One half of a colliery house built in 1904/05 is occupied; the apartment is furnished to reflect domestic life around 1930. The museum is operated by a local support association of the former housing company, with additional support from a foundation. The first exhibits came from the stock of a local antique dealer and were later supplemented by items from residents as well as visitors from the region and beyond. The collection includes kitchen utensils, furniture, decorative objects and similar household goods.

The living rooms display typical features of the period: exposed pipes and wiring, whitewashed walls, red floorboards and a privy. The cellar and courtyard are arranged so that catering can be provided if required. In the so-called Guten Stube, civil wedding ceremonies are held in addition to the exhibition. The Bergarbeiterwohnmuseum is part of the Route der Industriekultur.
