Description
The Carl-Julius-Weber memorial room in the town hall of Langenburg on the Jagst takes visitors into the life and world of the writer and satirist Karl Julius Weber; his birth house is marked here by a commemorative plaque. The room was established in 1987 as a space of remembrance and blends into the historic atmosphere of the town hall.
The furnishings include period furniture and a collection of Weber’s works. These comprise, among other items, Briefe eines in Deutschland reisenden Deutschen (Stuttgart 1826–1828) as well as Demokrit oder hinterlassene Papiere eines lachenden Philosophen (Stuttgart 1832–1840), alongside other historical and anthropological writings. The display is complemented by several personal items that belonged to Weber.
In addition, books and paintings by the writer Agnes Günther are exhibited; she lived in Langenburg as the dean’s wife from 1891 to 1907 and wrote the novel Die Heilige und ihr Narr in this house. Today the room also serves the civil registry office as a wedding room, linking literary remembrance with contemporary use.
