The Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe is a former Augustinian canoness convent, founded in the 13th century and now used as a museum. It is located in a historic building complex consisting of various buildings from different eras.The foundation of the monastery dates back to the year 1287, when Margrave Otto IV of Brandenburg and his wife Katharina von Henneberg endowed the monastery. In the following years, the complex was continuously expanded and enlarged. In the 15th century, the monastery experienced a heyday, becoming one of the most important spiritual centers in the region. It was during this time that the impressive Gothic-style monastery church was constructed.In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was secularized in 1539. The last Augustinian canonesses left the convent, and it passed into the possession of the Brandenburg Elector. In the following centuries, it served various purposes, including as a school, administrative building, and orphanage.Today, the Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe houses an extensive museum dedicated to the history of the monastery and the region. Visitors can explore the historic rooms, such as the cloister, the monastery church, and the library, and gain an authentic insight into medieval monastic life. Ein magischer Ort! Vor mehr als 700 Jahren gegründet, war das Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe zunächst ein Zisterzienserinnenkloster, nach der Reformation dann ein evangelisches Damenstift. In der Ostprignitz, auf halbem Weg zwischen Hamburg und Berlin gelegen, pflegt das Klosterstift bis heute ein aktives geistliches Leben und beeindruckt durch seine jahrhundertealte Bausubstanz.

A magical place! Founded more than seven centuries years ago, the Stift zum Heiligengrabe was originally a Cistercian nunnery. Since the Reformation, it has been a Protestant Collegiate Foundation for women. Located in the East Prignitz district, half way between Hamburg and Berlin, the foundation still maintains an active spiritual life, while the centuries-old building is impressive in itself.
