Description
For almost 50 years, weapons were tested for their durability in the former Zella-Mehlis firing centre. The striking industrial ensemble, built from 1883, was extensively renovated by 2002 and has since housed the town museum. Here you will find permanent exhibitions on the history of the town, geology and mining, gunsmithing, weapon firing, Zella-Mehlis weapons, automobile production, Mercedes office machines, small ironware production, industrial development, sports history, traditional Thuringian costumes, agriculture and forestry as well as pastoralism. Besonders Kinder und ihre Angehörigen können bei einer kleinen Museumsrallye gemeinsam mit Burni, dem ältesten Artefakt des Museums, auf Entdeckungsreise durch die Ausstellung gehen und am Ende sogar einen Preis gewinnen. Dazu gibt es ein kleines Büchlein mit interessanten Informationen zu ausgesuchten Objekten aus unserem Museum.
