Welcome to Homberg (Ohm)

This charming city with a medieval nucleus is situated on a hill of basalt. The historic center invites you to stroll through the narrow streets with half-timbered houses and little shops. High above the small town rises the once stately castle of Homberg, nowadays owned by the municipality. The garden of the castle offers to the visitor a marvelous view over the valley of the river Ohm. In the Schlosscafé you can enjoy home-baked cakes every Sunday afternoon.

Festivals in Homberg - unforgettable memories:

  • the “Schlossfest” in July,
  • the “Vintage Car Festival” in Homberg-Dannenrod in September,
  • the “Kalter Markt”, a traditional street market held in October since 1554,
  • the city festival “Apfel-Fest & flüssig” in October

Homberg (Ohm) – An active vacationer's paradise

Attractive hiking trails, as well as the best „Premium-Hiking trail” in Hesse - ‚Sagenhaftes Schächerbachtal’ (“Fabulous valley of the Schächerbach”) and the theme trail “GeoTour Felsenmeer” (GeoTour “Sea of rocks”), have made Homberg famous far beyond the borders of Hesse.

The well signposted “Schloss- und Altstadtrunde” (“Castle and old town tour”) invites you to explore the historic center of Homberg. Bike trails like the „Hessische Apfelwein- und Obstwiesenroute“ im Oberen Ohmtal (“Hessian cider and orchards tour” in the upper Ohm valley) or the picturesque „Panoramatour“ will guide you through the city’s beautiful surroundings.

In Homberg there are recreation and sports facilities like horse trecking stations, a heated outdoor swimming pool and a spacious playground in the forest (Waldspielplatz “Buchholzbrücke”).
