The castle "Prozelten," also known as "Henneburg," was built in the late 12th / early 13th century by the Schenken von Klingenberg as a border fortification. From the 14th century onwards, it served almost 200 years as the seat of the Teutonic Order, and lastly used by the Mainzer Amtskeller as their headquarters. In the 16th century, the castle was abandoned and fell into decay over time.The entrance to Henneburg is located at the northeastern corner of the complex, which can now be visited all year round - in the summer months from 8 am to 8 pm, and in winter from 9 am to 4 pm. The towers and the parapet of Henneburg are closed for conservation reasons from October 15th to including March 31st each year.Both keep towers are open for viewing, but a prior appointment is required to visit the parapet.The towers offer a stunning view of Maintal and Stadtprozelten as well as the heights of Spessart and Odenwald.Let our castle guides show you the secret nooks and crannies of Henneburg and immerse yourself in the history of the past centuries!The castle tavern with beer garden is open in the summer months from Friday to Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm.
