A nursery of true and versatile popular education, founded as an institution for the promotion of trade and commerce, art and charitable knowledge’ by Consul General Emil von Georgii-Georgenau (1828 - 1902). Inaugurated in May 1871, Father Johannes Hesse repeatedly held missionary lectures in this building. Drawing and painting lessons took place here, as well as musical performances by the choir and the church singing society. The first Calw library was located here.
