Description

Ilse Scholl Center for Graphology (CIS)

Graphologist Ilse Scholl offered highly sophisticated training courses in handwriting analysis. With the decline in handwritten records, demand waned, so that related fields of activity had to be sought and found...

 Ilse Scholl

Born in Berlin on January 22, 1909, this music student and singer married in Frankfurt in 1931 and gave birth to three children. She studied psychology in Zurich, where she met the founder of analytical psychology, C.G. Jung, who had a profound influence on her. In her apartment in Stuttgart, she began teaching graphology and wrote expert reports for companies, the police, and private individuals. In 1959, she was able to move into her idyllically located house with classrooms in Hirsau. In her private life, she not only had to cope with the death of her two sons in the turmoil of war, but also with the fatal traffic accident of her only remaining daughter in Hirsau. This made her devote herself all the more to her studies, which she believed were equivalent to self-analysis and enabled her to cope better with personal difficulties in life. She kept in touch with many figures in the humanities.
Hardly anyone could resist her presence and charisma. Hardly anyone could resist her presence and charisma. Her goal was to raise her students to a higher level of individual development through holistic thinking. She died on February 12, 1990, at the age of 81. The funeral took place at the Hirsau cemetery.

“Hirsau School”

Ilse Scholl founded the first German school for graphology, astrology, and testing methods based on depth psychology in Hirsau. It was a training center for graphologists who wanted to gain insights into a person´s personality by interpreting their handwriting. The training was intensive and lasted at least two years,
culminating in a “Diploma in Graphology from the Hirsau School.” In combination with distance learning and vacation courses, a three-part program was offered: “Psychology Course I” with weekly analysis of handwriting samples, “Psychology Course II” with weekly preparation of expert reports, supplemented by vacation courses on the cross-connections between depth psychology and graphology. Further training and
consulting were also offered to interested laypeople. The “Bleiche,” a mill once built by feudal farmers from Altburg, seemed ideal as a venue and accommodation. The intense experience of nature was intended to encourage reflection on the meaning of life. At times, the Bleiche even served as a venue for medically supervised psychosomatic treatment.

The school today

It was Ilse Scholl´s firm wish to preserve the school. She bequeathed her fortune to the Society of Friends and Supporters of the Hirsau School, registered since 2005 as “CIS Centrum Ilse Scholl Schule Hirsau e.V.”. Lectures and seminars, as well as the recruitment of
graphologists, actively shaped the association´s activities. However, the use of handwriting psychology and the demand for training declined with the decline in handwritten records. Therefore, additional content was sought, e.g., educational offerings,
partnership counseling, logo development, or writing movement training. The seminar room can also be rented for cultural meetings or events. It is beautifully located next to the park ensemble of the monastery of St. Peter and Paul with a view of the Eulenturm tower.
