[21] Inselgasse

Description

Built in 1454. After its destruction in 1634, it was rebuilt in 1672. Following further destruction in 1692, the current building was constructed between 1726 and 1730. The front of the town hall was renovated in 1929. The town hall hall was used as the town market, primarily for bakers and butchers. Two large fountains, probably built in 1586, featuring the Calw lions bearing the coats of arms of Württemberg and Calw, stand on the market square at the focal points of an ellipse. The town hall and town hall hall are mentioned in Hesse´s stories “Schön ist die Jugend” (Youth is Beautiful) and “Eine Fußreise im Herbst” (A Foot Journey in Autumn), among others; the lower market fountain plays a role in “Kindheit des Zauberers” (The Magician´s Childhood).
