The Hahnemann House (Wallstraße 47) in Köthen, which is run by an association, is one of those very significant locations where culture and contemporary history can be experienced in a particularly intense way. The German doctor, pharmacist and chemist Dr Samuel Hahnemann [*1755 in Meissen - died 1843 in Paris] lived here from 1821 to 1835 as the founder of the homeopathic theory of therapy, which was widely used around the world. Here he created important works such as his Organon. Based on the teachings of Hippocrates and Paracelsus, he developed a holistic approach to the patient and the further development of the simile principle (Similia similibus curentur / Like cure like).Hahnemann´s unique place of work in Köthen was almost forgotten for many decades. The house was used as a residence. In order to be able to present it again as a living part of homeopathy, Karl-Heinz Gebhardt, Chairman of the Association for the Promotion of the Homeopathy Hahnemann House Society, suggested the purchase of the house, which was successful in 1994. Following the completion of the renovation work, the roof, dormers and half-timbering have been renewed. The entire exterior appearance has been restored and the garden has been newly laid out. The house houses a homeopathic medical practice and part of the premises is open to the public as a museum. You almost get the feeling that the Hahnemanns are still busy in the house today.
