Remisenhaus

Beschreibung

The coach house adjoining the riding hall to the north was built in 1833 by Christian Conrad Hengst according to plans by Gottfried Bandhauer. In addition to carriages and sleighs, the building also housed weapons for a long time. Today, the coach house is part of the Köthen Castle event centre. The building houses two modern event rooms as well as the "SchlossKaffee".Under Gottfried Bandhauer (1790-1837), numerous buildings with different functions were built in the town and in the former Duchy of Anhalt-Köthen. In the town of Köthen, the castle´s Hall of Mirrors, the Ferdinand Building, the riding hall, the coach house in the northern castle forecourt and the Friedheim bank are particularly noteworthy. Bandhauer had been building inspector since 1822 and was appointed building councillor in 1823. He died in Roßlau in 1837, pursued by misfortune, impoverished and forgotten. A memorial plaque was placed on the Remisenhaus in his honour.
