The municipality of Mickhausen is located in the southwest of the district of Augsburg in the middle of the so-called "Stauden". The perennials, in turn, together with other regions, form the Augsburg Western Forests Nature Park. The municipality of Mickhausen emerged in 1978 as part of the territorial reform from the 3 formerly independent municipalities of Mickhausen, Münster and Grimoldsried. Due to its geographically central location in the perennials, Mickhausen is also known as the "perennial capital".
Mickhausen, together with the municipalities of Mittelneufnach, Walkertshofen, Langenneufnach and Scherstetten, forms the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft "Stauden"
