Exhibitions and Workshops

The municipal gallery of Schwalenberg provides a home to a great  collection of pictures from the times of Schwalenberg being an artist's colony, which is presented in changing exhibitions. In addition, art from the 19th and 20th centuries is shown in special set up exhibitions. These are organised by the culture agency of Lippe (Lippische Kulturagentur) of the Landesverband Lippe. The municipal gallery boasts a history of a series of exhibitions stretching back far, presenting art work by Max Beckmann, "Die Brücke"-club, Karl Hofer, Niki de Saint Phalle, Bernhard Heisig, Rudolf Jahns and many more   impressionists and expressionists. The gallery also regularly hosts exhibitions several artists of diverse branches of the artistic scene. The exhibitions are set up in cooperation with important German museums as well as private collectors. From September to March, adventure tours for school classes are run. The students will not just learn about the painters of the artist's colony, but will also be motivated to step into the shoes of an open-air artist themselves.
