In 1840, Prince Leopold II commissioned the construction of a tower on the Kahlenberg hill in Schieder, approximately 80 feet high, in order to create an "interesting point-de-vue" which is visible from various directions from afar, and further to be able to enjoy "a comprehensive and breath-taking view from the tower from a viewpoint which is sheltered from the wind". This wonderful view can still be enjoyed today, after having taken the 100 steps up the Kahlenberg Tower. In 2016 the Kahlenberg Tower celebrated its 175th anniversary.
