Description

The Baumhaus, located directly at the entrance to the Old Harbour, is a baroque building from the middle of the 18th century. The building owes its name to the so-called "Bohmschlütern", employees of the harbour administration who used to live in the house and block the harbour in case of imminent danger and at night. Originally, a floating barrier was erected in front of the harbour entrance. The entrance portal of the Baumhaus is flanked by two Swedish heads. Today it houses the permanent exhibition "Maritime Tradition Centre", which provides an insight into the Hanseatic era and the eventful shipbuilding history of Wismar.
