Description

As part of the extensive urban development measures for the restructuring and redesign of Stavenhagen, the corner building on Neue Straße 15 was also demolished after a long period of vacancy. Unfortunately, the heritage-protected half-timbered house on Neue Straße 17 could not be saved from vacancy either and had to be torn down in 2013 as well. This led to an urban development deficiency in the intersection area of Neue Straße and Wallstraße due to the now missing buildings. Both plots were purchased in 2015 by a private group of builders. Their construction project is supported by urban development funding. Eventually, the previous gap was filled by a house, which is the result of an architectural competition as part of the initiative “New Living in the City Centre”. The project resulted in eleven new apartments, three of which are even barrier-free. The new construction, like the rest of the city, is always planned and implemented with consideration for the historical old town. Street-side, one finds a restrained construction style. A typical perforated façade with standing windows and small dormer windows on the gabled roofs blends perfectly into the cityscape. Only a freer design and a slight emphasis on entrance areas break up this construction style a little, but in no way does it detract from the overall harmony of the image. The corner situation is highlighted by free-standing gables in the line of sight of Neue Straße. The project was completed in December 2017. Meanwhile, all apartments are occupied and residents can enjoy new living in a building with a charm that fits the historical surroundings. Another construction gap on Neue Straße 9-13 or on the corner of Wallstraße was closed by new construction. A residential and commercial building with fourteen apartments and a commercial unit was built here. The new construction serves to preserve the historical urban structure, as in other parts of the city. The large construction gaps have disappeared and the edges of the buildings have been restored.
