Description

The name is certainly derived from "legebank" (judgment bench). This was the place where judges or jurors spoke law in the open air according to German custom. Underneath the Liegenbank, there are basement vaults that could have been used as sales counters on market days. These were still visible until 1902. The Liegenbank received its current appearance after a renovation in the same year.

- Liegenbank: built-up terrain step (Heiste), whose name comes from the "lower court" that was held here (at the "legebank").

- First mentioned in 1631 on the occasion of the city fire.

- Since 1870 several structural changes of the entire ensemble, construction of a public staircase and railing tops.

- Until 1902, the basement vaults under the Liegenbank were still visible, these were used on market days as "sales counters".

- 1982/83 Renovation and re-design of the buildings in accordance with preservation of historical monuments.

- 1993/94 Restoration of the masonry.
