Description

Directly adjacent to the west choir of the cathedral, there is a former collegiate building. It is the birthplace of the fable writer Magnus Gottfried Lichtwer. Although less popular today, Lichtwer is considered alongside Lessing and Gellert as one of the most significant German fable writers of the Enlightenment era. From the fable "The Cats and the Homeowner" comes the commonly used saying taken from a line in Lichtwer´s verse: "Blind zeal only does harm."

The Old Custody, built around 1525, was later provided with the transition to the west choir of the cathedral.
