Description

The 20-meter high observation tower was built from 1908, inaugurated on April 1, 1909, and on clear days, offers a panoramic view of up to 40 km over the beautiful Mulde Valley from the observation deck. National Natural Monument "Wachtelberg-Mühlbachtal": At 148.5 m above sea level, Wachtelberg is the highest elevation in the south of the city of Wurzen (OT Dehnitz) and the oldest national natural monument in Germany. Protection of the area began as early as 1911 due to concerns over a further decline in the population of the true purple anemone. Through painstaking protection and care measures, the population of the "Easter Flower" (as it´s locally known) has increased significantly over the decades. The people of Wurzen have every reason to be proud, as it is the furthest easterly location of this rare plant species in Central Europe, and the only occurrence in Saxony.
