The cornerstone of the Catholic Church was laid in early 1899 and the church could be consecrated within the same year. The church architecture of that time did not develop its own style, but was modelled after Romanesque. The first peal of the church was melted down in the war year of 1917. In 1924, three bells were recast as a sound steel peal. Before its 100th anniversary in 1998, the complex renovation of the house of God could be completed. On December 15, 2020, the bell consecration for the new peal of the Sacred Heart Church in Wurzen took place, carried out by Bishop Heinrich Timmerevers. On Easter 2020, the three bells then first struck in the tower of the church.
