Last visible part of the old (inner) city wall. Around 1200, the legal town of Wurzen was established around the market, creating a ring wall with initially two outer gates. Until 1512, Bishop Johann von Salhausen attempted to encircle the Wenzels suburb, which is located south of here, with a wall ring (outer ring). After 1700, some parts of the city wall were partially demolished, and the bricks were used in buildings. Parts of the wall (like here in the town hall courtyard) are still preserved today as property boundaries or in overbuildings. After 1970, the remaining wall at the town hall began to decay increasingly. In 2011, the wall was restored with a cover after a partial collapse.
