Description

This Renaissance building from the mid-16th century received its current appearance in the years 1666-1668. Parts of the interior, such as the spiral staircase made of oak and Baroque stucco ceilings, are still preserved and are a tourist attraction.

In the quadrangle enclosed by arcades, concerts and readings take place in good weather during the summer months.

In the museum, you will find an extensive range of prehistoric and early history, city and cultural history, urban craftsmanship and folklore. Notable items include a plague cart from 1607, Napoleon´s cup from 1813, a hand pump sprayer from 1803, and the original sea bag of Ringelnatz.

The poet Joachim Ringelnatz (real name Hans Gustav Bötticher) was born in Wurzen/Saxony in 1883 and died in Berlin in 1934. His collections of poems, "Die Schnupftabakdose" (The Snuff Box, 1912) and "Kuttel Daddeldu" (1920), are still well-known today.

The representative office in the Wurzen Museum building, with its early Baroque stucco ceiling, serves cultural purposes and is used for events and exhibitions. Here, visitors can view a sandstone figure of the last court jester of August the Strong.
